During this uncertain period the coronavirus pandemic has brought with it, some employers have stepped up and some have disgraced themselves (Wetherspoons comes to mind).

When it comes to stepping up, both Tesco and Aldi are paying their staff a 10% bonus to say thanks for their hard work, and another supermarket giant is also doing right by its workers.

Asda has announced that it will be giving all vulnerable staff who need to self-isolate for 12 weeks paid leave for this whole period.

This means that any staff member who has been forced to self-isolate, including pregnant women, the elderly, carers of vulnerable people, and those with certain illnesses, will get full pay for the three months they are off.

On top of that, every single staff member will get an extra weeks pay in June to say ‘thank you’ for all their hard work during this crisis.

Hayley Tatum, Asda’s Chief People Officer, said: “Protecting our customers and colleagues has always been our main priority throughout these uncertain times and we want to do everything we can to help keep them and their families safe.

“We don’t want any of our colleagues worrying about being paid if they need to self-isolate as a result of Coronavirus which is why we’ve taken the decision to pay them for the next 12-weeks.

“I am so incredibly proud of our colleagues and all of their hard work through this difficult time, as they continue to support our customers and their community.”

Well done Asda, this will put a lot of minds at ease!
