An exciting new attraction is coming to Blackpool, and the futuristic project is now one step closer after a deal was completed for the land. The local council has agreed to lease the land to Nikal Ltd and Media Invest Entertainment for 250 years, the Blackpool Gazette reports. The nine year scheme will transform a plot of land near the Promenade – the site of the former Central Station – over four phases, and will feature the UK’s first ‘flying theatre’. The first phase will see several exciting new experiences built on the site, including the UK’s first flying theatre, a virtual reality experience, something called ‘greatest mysteries’, a multimedia exhibition epace, ‘Adventure Land’, a thrill and gaming zone, alien diner, an artisan food hall, an event square and 150 bedroom hotel.
The investors behind the project’s main focus is bringing a high tech ‘Chariot of the Gods-themed’ flying theatre attraction to the seaside resort.
Chariots of the Gods is a global publishing phenomenon by Swiss author Erich Von Däniken, exploring alien encounters and unsolved mysteries of ancient civilisations. It will be the UK’s first ‘flying theatre’, which is basically a fully-immersive thrill ride that creates the incredible sensation of human flight.
Phase two will see residential apartments built, as well as further food and drink outlets, a landscaped public space and a second hotel featuring 250 bedrooms. When completed, it’s thought the project will create about 1,000 jobs, with the aim of attracting 600,000 new visitors to the resort a year – with a combined annual spend of £75m.
Nikal’s co-founder Alan Murphy said: “Blackpool has a long history of debuting state-of-the-art family entertainment. We are excited to be delivering the UK’s first Chariots of the Gods themed attraction to the North West of England along with all other phases.
“We look forward to working with Blackpool Council to deliver this landmark development for the town.”
