Bolton is being placed under even stricter coronavirus restrictions, as it sees a huge rise in cases.
All pubs and restaurants in the Greater Manchester borough have now been ordered to shut to anyone eating and drinking on-site, effective immediately.
However, hospitality venues like bars and cafes can remain open to provide a takeaway option during the day.
They will have to shut entirely between 10pm and 5am, though, with the local restrictions tightened after it became England’s worst hotspot for new coronavirus cases.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock revealed the news in the House of Commons, saying. “This virus feeds on complacency. The threat posed by the virus has not gone away.
“Now, with winter on the horizon, we must all redouble our efforts so we get this virus on the back foot.”
Bolton is the first place in England since Leicester in which all pubs and restaurants have been asked to shut to sit-in customers.
