Put down your clippers, hairdressers could be reopened in two weeks.
Gone are the days of shoddy DIY haircuts and embarrassing mullets, as salons and barbershops could be reopening ahead of schedule according to Boris Johnson.
Brits have been letting their greys grow out since March 23rd when hairdressers shut as part of the lockdown. Originally, July was given as the date hairdressers and salons might be able to reopen.
But according to The Telegraph, ministers are now discussing moving this date forward to kickstart the UK economy with fresh fades.
This could mean the sector will be reopening from as early as June 15th, along with the list of many other non-essential shops.
The Department for Business has reportedly drawn up new guidelines for similar rules for dentists which are set to reopen June 8th.
The new plans will mean hairdressers will be wearing face masks, perspex visors and gloves while magazines, and refreshings will be banned.
An insider told the Telegraph: “Hairdressers were supposed to be the next thing. Boris has talked about unleashing the great British haircut again. It would be treated under similar rules to dentists.”
Dentists have put temperature screenings and virtual consultations in place and appointments are to be attended alone, unless you have accompanying small children.
The measures mean salons across the country might look a little more like a trip to the dentist.
This all comes after Health Secretary Matt Hancock said he wouldn’t commit to hairdressers being allowed to open on June 15th.
He said: “I would love to be able to do that and the way to do that is to ensure that, when it is safe to do so, hairdressing is brought back in a way that itself is safe. So, protective equipment.
“We are working on what it would look like to have the protective equipment, exactly as you say, in place.
“Hairdressing, like so many industries, we’re doing everything we can to support them through what is inevitably an incredibly difficult time.”
