If you’ve always wanted to work with exotic animals then you’re in luck, as Chester Zoo is hiring.

Specifically, they want someone who can look after the Hoofstock department, where you’ll take care of animals like giraffes, zebras and rhinos.

You’ll be the Lead Keeper of the department, with responsibility for animal welfare and ensuring the habitat is kept to impeccably high standards.

The job ad reads: “We currently have an exciting vacancy for a Lead Keeper to join our busy and diverse Hoofstock section. For the right candidate, this post offers a fantastic opportunity to work with a variety of hoof stock species including Rothschild’s Giraffe, Black Rhinos, Okapi, Grevy’s Zebra, and Malayan Tapir to name a few.”

The right candidate will have a degree level qualification in a zoological related science or equivalent experience, so a love of animals alone won’t be enough to get you the role.

Experience in animal husbandry, and specifically around hoofstock species, is what the zoo is looking for, so if that’s you, get applying.

It’s a 40 hour a week role, with a starting salary of £24,142.75 per year – you’ll also get perks like a big holiday allowance, free tickets to the zoo and free travel to work.

If you want to get involved, you can apply over on the Chester Zoo job site here.
