The coronavirus restrictions which are currently in place in Greater Manchester will continue, the government has confirmed.
The stricter rules on gatherings, which are currently also in place in West Yorkshire, East Lancashire and Leicester will remain.
The Department of Health and Social Care confirmed the news, Sky News reports.
According to the government, the most current data doesn’t show enough of a decrease in case numbers per 100,000 people in those areas which are currently under tighter restrictions.
The figures show a continued rise in both Oldham and Pendle, while Blackburn with Darwen is also still showing a high number of coronavirus cases.
The health minister, Edward Argar, said: “I’d like to thank everyone in Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire, East Lancashire and Leicester for their continued patience in following these vital rules put in place to tackle the spread of the disease – I know it hasn’t been easy.
“It is essential we all remain vigilant and I urge everyone in these areas to continue to follow the rules – wash your hands regularly, follow social distancing, get yourself a free test as soon as you get any symptoms, and isolate if NHS Test and Trace tells you to.”
According to Sky, the restrictions will be reviewed once again next week.
