The incident is the worst mass shooting in the UK since 2010
A critical incident was declared in Plymouth last night after a gunman went on the rampage, killing five people – a child included – before turning the gun on himself.
Shortly after midnight, Devon and Cornwall police confirmed that a shooter, who has since been locally identified as twenty-three-year old scaffolder Jake Davison, had stormed a family home at around 6pm and shot dead who is believed to be his mother, his sister and his brother.
From there, he went on to shoot a young girl as she walked her dog with her family and another innocent bystander.
Davison reportedly then turned the gun on himself.
In a statement, Devon and Cornwall police said: “Police were called to a serious firearms incident in Biddick Drive, in the Keyham area of Plymouth at about 6.10pm. Following attendance at the scene, two females and two males were deceased at the scene.
“A further male, believed to be the offender, was also deceased. All are believed to have died from gunshot wounds.
“Another female treated at the scene for gunshot wounds, died a short time later in hospital. All of the next of kin of the deceased have been located and informed by Devon and Cornwall police officers.
“Devon and Cornwall police would stress this is not a terrorism related incident.”

Witness Sharron Turner, fifty-seven, told The Times said she saw Davison kick in the front door of a semi-detached property before opening fire on a mother and her daughter, who she says looked around five-years-old.
She added the man was dressed in black and grey and armed with what looked like a semi-automatic weapon, saying: “We heard a number of loud bangs which I said sounded like gunshots.
“Then he ran into the park and there were further shots. I heard someone say he had shot his brother.”
It has since emerged that Davison was right-wing with an ‘obsession’ with American gun culture, and also liked Incel TV online – a support group for ‘involuntary celibates’ which has previously been linked to male supremacy and misogyny.

His Facebook account is littered with American propaganda, such as a picture of an eagle in front of a flag and a picture of the Lexington Minuteman statue that depicts a colonial farmer holding a musket.
Davison also shared a Donald Trump quote which reads: “In America, we do not seek to impose our way of life on anyone but rather to let it shine as an example for everyone to watch.”
He posted videos expressing despair about the future and frustrations about failing to lose weight and to find a girlfriend.
Commuters could be facing the steepest rise in the cost of train travel in more than a decade just months after prices were already increased.
It has been predicted today that train prices across England and Wales could rise by nearly 5% before the New Year.
The 2021 rise in prices was delayed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic when train travel was at an all-time low, however, tickets still saw a price rise of 2.6% in March.

And this morning, the Retail Prices Index for July 2021 was confirmed as 3.8% by the Office for National Statistics, meaning passengers could see fares rise by 4.8% in 2022, which would be the largest hike since 2012.
This means that the cost of rail travel could increase twice within ten months, and would see a Manchester-Glasgow off-peak return rise by £6.30 to £94.90, according to Metro.
Though all hope isn’t yet gone – changes to the fares in 2022 are still yet to be confirmed.

A Department for Transport spokesperson said: “No decision has been made on national rail fares.
“The government is considering a variety of options and we will announce our decision in due course.”
