Iceland is donating all profits from Penguin bar sales to Chester Zoo

Iceland has announced that it will be donating all profits from the sale of McVitie’s Penguin bars to Chester Zoo throughout next week.

The news comes after Iceland announced it will be adopting Chester Zoo’s entire rookery of Humboldt penguins earlier this week. 

Following Chester Zoo’s plea to Save Our Zoo, thousands of people donated over £2.2m to financially help the zoo, keeping it running despite being forced to close due to lockdown. 

Iceland has gone one step further and will be donating all of the profits made on McVitie’s Penguin bars in-store and online to financially support Chester Zoo as it recovers from a forced closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The offer will be on from 12th – 22nd June meaning shoppers can help Chester Zoo in a small but generous way!

Shoppers can buy a pack of McVitie’s Penguin Original Chocolate Biscuit Bars (£1) online and in Iceland stores or a bumper 21-bar pack from their local Food Warehouse: McVitie’s Original Penguin Chocolate Biscuit Bars (£2).

The classic chocolate biscuits start from just £1 in a pack of seven – pick up a pack (or two) and help support Chester zoo!

The response to Chester Zoo’s call for help has been overwhelmingly positive. Many of Icelands regional stores have been inspired to raise funds amongst staff and adopt more of Chester’s animals from chimpanzees to python snakes.

Responding to the news, Richard Walker, Managing Director at Iceland Foods said: “We’re delighted to support Chester Zoo during this difficult time – a cherished British attraction and one of my personal childhood favourites.

“Thankfully, the government is allowing zoos to open from 15 June, so we hope the hardest times are now behind Chester Zoo, but the McVitie’s Penguin biscuit profit donation will hopefully lend extra support needed to weather this difficult period.

“We’re so proud of everyone at Iceland who made this a possibility and we’re especially pleased to hear about staff at our regional stores who were inspired to make their own donations and adopt animals of their own.”
