Manchester Airport has released details of the updated measures it will be bringing in as part of its Safe System of Travel pilot system.

The updates to the system come just over a month after Manchester Airport became the first airport to implement masks and gloves.

The update now means that passengers will be asked to wear face coverings but will no longer be required to wear gloves.

The statement says: Temperature checks will continue to be trialled and passengers will be asked to wear face coverings, but gloves will no longer be required.

The system was put in place as part of a pilot system aimed at creating a new standard for safe international travel.

In the early stages of the pilot, airport staff were on hand to provide gloves and masks for those passengers that arrived without their own.

The latest update recognises the challenge COVID-19 has had on the aviation industry. The pilot was put in place to better understand how to increase the capacity of the airport while retaining passenger safety.

The statement on Facebook finishes: “We will keep these measures under constant review and will amend them if and when we feel it’s appropriate, based on feedback from passengers, colleagues and guidance from our advisers.”

So far many Facebook users seem in favour of the latest updates, with one user writing ‘Finally got rid of the gloves! Good.’ .

Another stated: “…I certainly won’t be travelling for a while my health [is] more important than a beach”.

In the original statement on May 7th, the airport said that face coverings and gloves may form an important part of operating a busier airport terminal safely.

Experts have since said that while you may feel cleaner with gloves on, washing your hands frequently is safer at killing the virus because while you are wearing gloves you are obviously not washing your hands, and can spread the virus.

Similarly, masks do not stop you from catching coronavirus, but do stop you from spreading the virus.
