Manchester’s Cat Cafe has confirmed the sad news that it will now be closing for good, which means the cats are looking for new homes.
The Cat Cafe opened in the Northern Quarter in 2016, and gave the public a chance to enjoy a cup of tea, natter and the company of plenty of cats.
Owned by sisters Ellie and Sarah Close, the duo say they are ‘truly heartbroken’ by the news, but the impact of Covid-19 on their business has given them no choice but to close.
This means they will permanently shut the High Street site as the lease is coming to an end.
The announced the news over on Instagram, writing: “It has been an incredibly difficult decision to make, but as it stands we simply cannot afford to continue in our current unit.
“It’s hoped the concept can return at a new site in future – but the 10 resident cats will be re-homed in the meantime.
“If you have any memories you would like to share please do so in the comments below. We would love to hear your stories and see photos to remind us of the wonderful times.
“All our love, Harvey, Georgie, Aslan, Bert, Leo, Savannah, Riley, Darcey, Dax, Daisy and all the Cat Cafe Manchester team.”
Back in November when Tier 4 was first announced in Manchester, the Cat Cafe shared the stresses of the lockdown, writing: “apparently you can go to the Arndale. you can weave your way through a bustling Trafford Centre, you can queue in John Lewis, but you cannot come through our doors for a coffee. This does not make sense”.
They added: “Our government have just sacrificed Manchester’s bars and restaurants, cafes and hotels, but saved their own.
“Never has the North South divide been greater. And we will not forget. We will keep going, we will fight even harder. But we will not forget.”
