A huge fire has been pictured tearing through the moorland just outside of Greater Manchester.

The image shows a huge fire ripping through moorland near Glossop last night, after one of the hottest days of the year so far.

Fire crews from Greater Manchester and Derbyshire were called to the fire at Woodhead Tunnel on Wednesday evening.

Glossop Fire Station took to social media to raise awareness about the situation, saying that the blaze was brought under control last night, with rangers set to inspect the situation this morning.

They also urged people not to have barbecues and fires on moorland, with the warning coming days after Manchester Fire and Rescue Service asked everyone to be careful so another disaster like the 2018 moor fires doesn’t happen.

Glossop Fire Station wrote on Facebook: “This evening Glossop on call with assistance from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) Hyde, Buxton Fire Stations, Unimog and Command Support unit attended a moorland fire at Woodhead Tunnel.

“With the help of Peak District Moorland Group game keepers the fire was brought under control. Rangers will be inspecting at first light.

“Please don’t have BBQs or fires on moorland.”
