Morrisons is to become the first UK supermarket to guarantee pay of at least £10 an hour under a new deal.
The supermarket is set to launch a new deal in April which will mean nearly 96,000 Morrisons colleagues will gain a pay rise.
This will mean the majority of colleagues, who are currently on £9.20 an hour, will see a pay increase of approximately 9% of their wages.
David Potts, Morrisons CEO, said: “It’s great to be able to say that in the UK from April this year, if you work at Morrisons supermarkets, you will earn at least £10 an hour.
“It’s a symbolic and important milestone that represents another step in rewarding the incredibly important work that our colleagues do up and down the country.”
He added: “Morrisons colleagues have earned their status as key workers, and this pay increase, many times over.”
Those in London will also receive an hourly increase too.
Morrisons isn’t the only supermarket offering employees a pay rise, Lidl has also increased entry-level wages from £9.30 to £9.50, benefitting 20,000 employees.
