A salon owner in Kirklees has been hit with several fines after ignoring the lockdown rules and opening again.

Sinead Quinn of Quinn Blakey Hairdressers in Oakenshaw near Bradford is facing fines totalling £17,000, for repeatedly ignoring the lockdown rules.

A Kirklees Council spokesperson said: “We visited on Saturday and found the business to be open. They have been given a £4,000 fine for trading that day.

“Police visited the premises today and the business was found to again be open and trading.

“They are now being issued with a further £10,000 fine. This takes the total to £17,000.”

Earlier this month, Quinn posted videos on Instagram showing her arguing with council officials who had visited the salon to see if it was complying with the rules. In one video she told officials she didn’t ‘consent’ to being fined and cited ‘common law’.

She has previously posted a sign on the salon door which quoted the Magna Carta in defence of her decision to keep trading.

In a video posted on Sunday, Quinn tells the visiting officer:  “I don’t consent.”

On the post, she wrote: “REALLY difficult to hear her this time at she wasn’t aggressive like the first time she came.. maybe because she didn’t have the police as back up? And it was short and sweet.

“The police did pull up just as I was closing the salon to go home so I approached the car and told them I was going home and there’s no need to get out, they said ‘we’ve got to come out when we get calls that you’re open’.

“Really nice copper! See you on Monday guys!”
