Marcus Rashford has inspired a young man to help feed hungry children in the country.

The avid Manchester United supporter from Clitheroe has followed in Rashford’s footsteps to help combat child hunger in the UK.

After hearing that families were being left with as little as £5 worth of food for ten days in the free school meal scandal, 21-year-old Saul Suttie rushed to the supermarket to create his own food parcels.

He then urged struggling families to come forward on socials and admits he was blown away by the response.

He said: “I read about the meagre food parcels being delivered to families and I was shocked.

“Some of the food delivered is an insult to people struggling. I am a huge Manchester United supporter and Marcus Rashford is my hero. I was moved by his campaign and decided to play my part to help.

“I went to the supermarket and bought essential items such as pasta, eggs, fruit, cereal, long life milk, canned food, biscuits, bread and created food parcels. I posted a message on Facebook offering the parcels and couldn’t believe the response.

“I had people contacting me from far and wide. I have a friend who lives in Jersey and he shared my post. I received a message from an under-privileged family in Jersey asking for help. Obviously, I cannot deliver a parcel there, but I asked my friend to create one and it has seen been collected.”

Saul said generous members of the community have pledged donations for families-in-need to ensure no child goes hunger.

He continued: “I have been overwhelmed by the kindness of people who have donated cash so that I can create more food parcels. It’s amazing! I now have my mum and dad, Steve and Liz, on board who are helping to create the food hampers and we have a very busy weekend ahead of us!

“The Ribble Valley is perceived as a wealthy area, but you will be surprised there are hundreds of children living in households where parents are struggling to make ends meet. We just want to make sure we can provide essential food items so that they can enjoy at least one nutritious meal a day.”
