McVitie’s is now selling Jaffa Cake doughnuts for the ultimate snack crossover

Jaffa Cakes are out, Jaffa Jonuts are in

If you thought Jaffa Cakes couldn’t get any better, think again.

Biscuit giant McVitie’s has announced the launch of the Jaffa Cake Doughnut, a delicious hybrid of the chocolate orange snack and, well, a doughnut.

Though many could argue that McVitie’s has waded into dangerous waters with this invention because Jaffa Cakes, which were first invented here in Manchester ninety-four years ago in 1927, are regarded very highly by Brits all across the country.

McVitie’s

You should all be aware of the colossal ‘are they biscuits, are they cakes’ debate – fans of the popular snack have been passionately debating for decades whether they’re biscuits or cakes due to their unique texture and appearance.

Many have argued that the consistency of the base is simply not soft or spongy enough to compare with other cakes, while others have pointed out that they’re not at all crunchy enough to qualify as a biscuit.

(They’re definitely cakes, FYI.)

Anyway, McVitie’s has nipped the ‘cake or biscuit’ deliberation in the bud with its new Jaffa Cake doughnut.

McVitie’s

Yep, the latest Jaffa Cake variation to grace our shelves is a doughnut-shaped ring of sponge with the staple orange-flavoured filling, a dark chocolate coating and a simply ingenious name: Jaffa Jonuts.

Emma Stowers, brand director for McVitie’s at plaids UK&I, told The Independent: “We love hearing Jaffanatics debate about our Jaffa Cakes and the launch of our Jaffa Jonuts is sure to spark further conversation!

“We’re excited to offer a new twist to our fans, as the fusion between Jaffa Cakes and doughnuts brings an exciting and original taste experience to those who love a treat.”

The Jaffa Jonuts will join the company’s ‘Jaffa-nation’ range, which includes orange, pineapple, cherry and passionfruit-flavoured Jaffa Cakes, Jaffa Cake Bars and Mini Rolls.

Jaffa Jonuts are currently available in Tesco’s across the country, retailing individually for 60p or in a box of 4 for £1.99.

They will be available in other retailers in June.

Aldi has knocked it out of the park this week with the launch of their ‘churros with chocolate’ flavoured gin.

Yep, it’s the churros and gin combo you never knew you needed.

Now, there’s no disputing the fact that the combination of churros and melted chocolate is definitely one of the more elite desserts out there – but have you ever envisioned chocolate churros whipped up into an alcoholic treat?

Probably not – but, as always, Aldi is on hand to make your chocolatey-boozy dreams come true.

The Churros with Chocolate Gin Liqueur, made by The Infusionist and stocked by Aldi, was brought to the attention of the internet by the food blogging Instagram account, Kevs Snack Reviews.

Of course, Instagram users were very impressed by the new boozy offering, with one writing: “Need to get it for the next cocktail night,” and another tagging their friend while noting: “We need to get our hands on this one.”

Admittedly, this gin may be a little bit sweet for some, but picture it in a gin espresso martini or as a twist on a pornstar martini.

I’ve convinced you, haven’t I?

Priced at £7.99 the chocolate churros gin liqueur is available both online and in stores, joining the likes of Lemon Drizzle Cake gin liqueur, Raspberry Jam Donut gin liqueur, and Salted Caramel Cupcake gin liqueur.
