Barbados is inviting people to ‘work from home’ on the island for a year

Barbados is introducing a new visa that means visitors can stay for up to a year, and they’re looking for people to move their remote office to the island! 

The Caribbean Island is set to reopen for tourism later this month, allowing international visitors to return on July 12th. 

When it reopens the Prime Minister, Mia Amor Mottley, wants people to bring their laptops and set up a work from home setting on the beautiful island. 

The ‘12-month Barbados Welcome Stamp’ allows visitors to stay on the island for up to a year. 

The new relaxed measure is hoped to encourage people to stay longer and even finish their final work-from-home days on the beach.

So if you’re truly sick of your temporary WFH set up on the dining table, why not head to the beach instead?! 

Before heading, travellers from high risk countries will have to take a test within 72 hours before departing for the island. Those coming from countries that have had fewer than 100 cases in the last seven days will require a test one week before departure. 

On arrival, you will have to present the new Embarkation/Disembarkation Card, which asks health questions as well as for a negative test. 

Once you get through immigration you’ll find that Barbados is open for business including beaches, parks and shops.

Be warned though, wearing a face mask is mandatory, and the social distancing has been reduced to three feet. 

Mottley said: “We want to create an environment that will allow people to come to Barbados to work, to rest, and to play from here for an extended period of time.” 

All you need is a nice bit of sand and a steady wi-fi and you’re good to go!
