A tourist was left reeling after being charged £10 for two Mr. Whippy ice creams while visiting the Peak District.
It’s no secret that years of inflation has been slowly pushing up the price of the classic summer treat – as of 2021, the cost of 99 Flakes start from around £1.50, Metro reports.
But, even by today’s standards, £10 is an almost unheard of cost for two Mr. Whippys.

Well, there’s one ice cream van up in the North, of all places, taking advantage of tourists visiting beauty spots by racking up its prices for ice cream and other frozen treats.
One tourist in the Peak District, who has chosen to remain anonymous, had been visiting the Roaches near Leek during the sunny half-term break last week when he decided to buy some refreshments from the van in question, Stoke on Trent Live reported.
However, he was stunned to learn that two Mr. Whippy ice creams – fondly nicknamed 99s for their traditional price of 99p – were to set him back an eye watering £10.

Taking to social media, he expressed his fury over the price, writing: “The first and last time I pay £10 for two 99s. I know there’s a Flake shortage but come the f*** on!”
He was later contacted by the operators, and added: “I received an apology and assurances that pricing will now be clear on the vans. Hopefully no one will be ‘price ambushed’ moving forward.”
Other Facebook users described it as ‘daylight robbery,’ while another man noted: “Robbing Rob Dogs, that’s disgraceful!”
