During his comeback charity shows at the Manchester Apollo over the weekend, Bolton legend Peter Kay hinted at the return of his iconic show, Max and Paddy.
The series, written by Peter Kay and Paddy McGuinness, ran for just one season between November-December in 2004, but was a roaring success and remains a firm favourite to this very day.
The series followed the two Bolton doormen Maxwell ‘Max’ Bygraves and Patrick ‘Paddy’ O’Shea as they toured around the UK in their camper van. They were on the run due to an incident in the last episodes of Phoenix Nights in which a club patron threatened to have them killed by hitmen.

Yet despite its success, the series has never returned to our screens – Kay has previously revealed that there wasn’t the opportunity to make more Max and Paddy because of McGuinness’ success hosting ITV’s dating series, Take Me Out.
But over the weekend, Kay revealed that the possibility of a return isn’t as unlikely as he’d once thought.
On Saturday, the comedian made a return to the stage after a two year hiatus to host two exclusive charity shows titled ‘Do it for Laura,’ both of which were in aid of twenty-year-old Laura Nuttall, who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain tumour, Glioblastoma multiforme.
And during one of the shows, which featured a live Q&A, Kay was asked if Max and Paddy would return, in which he told the audience: “I loved making Max and Paddy, it was one of the best times we ever had filming and we had such a good laugh.
“We actually wrote two Christmas specials and then we never made them so you never know.”
Of course, Kay is yet to follow up on his comment and confirm a TV comeback but, following the success of his live shows, we can only hope a Max and Paddy reunion will follow suit.
